Introduction: The aim of the present study is to describe the alterations produced in gastric mucosa related to the presence of Helicobacter pylori, in patients of SOLCA Cuenca Institute. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was done in which 101 gastric biopsies were analyzed with the intetio of describing the alterations that take place in the gastric mucosa, related to the presence of Helicobacter pylori. For the pathological evaluation, visualgrading system of the updated Sydney System was used. Results: We found Helicobacter pylori in 65% of all analyzed biopsies, which 61% were, female patients. The variables that reached significant statiscal association were moderate and severe the presence of PMNs (p<0,0005 and p=0,001 respectively), the sligh microerosions (p=0,001) and the moderate drecrease of the mucosecretory capacity of epithelium (p=0,032). The atrophy carrelated with second and third metaplasia degree (p=0,037 and p=0,002). Conclusion: The Helicobacter pylori infection is frequent in our patients and produce intense acute inflammatory reaction.
