Administrar anestesia para cirugía neurológica en pacientes oncológicos puede ser un reto. Se debe estar familiarizado con la historia natural de las malignidades más comunes y su tratamiento, así como también con las maneras en que las intervenciones anestésicas influyen en el procedimiento neuroquirúrgico.

Buena comunicación y cooperación entre el anestesiólogo y cirujano son esenciales. Revisaremos las consideraciones fundamentales acerca del manejo anestésico y perioperatorio, a fin de mejorar el cuidado de los pacientes sometidos a procedimientos neuroquirúrgicos.

Providing anesthesia for neurological surgery in oncological patients can be a challenge. One must be familiar no only with the natural history of the cornmonest  malignancies and their treatment but also with the interrelated ways in witch anesthetic interventions influence the neurosurgical procedure. Good communication and cooperation between the anesthesiologist and the surgeon are essential. We will review the fundamental considerations about the anesthetic and perioperative management,
in order the improve the care of patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures.
