El Cáncer colo-rectal (CCR) representa, en nuestro medio, el segundo tumor digestivo en frecuencia. La secuencia adenoma-carcinoma en CCR ha sido bien establecida. A la base de estos cambios histológicos existen alteraciones en el material genético de las células del epitelio cólico. En los casos de formas hereditarias de CCR, algunas alteraciones se heredan y están presentes en las células de todo el organismo. En los casos de CCR esporádico, no relacionado a herencia, los cambios genéticos se adquieren en algún momento de la vida del individuo.

El estudio de estas alteraciones genéticas puede ser utilizado como ayuda en el diagnóstico y pronóstico del CCR; en las formas hereditarias, permiten una intervención precoz, de manera que se puede evitar el desarrollo de tumores. En la presente revisión hacemos un resumen actualizado de las principales características clínicas y genéticas presentes en el CCR esporádico y hereditario.

The colo-rectal cancer represents, in our means, the second digestive tumor in frequency. The sequence adenoma-carcinoma in CCR has been very established. To the base of these histological changes, alterations exist in the genetic material of the cells of the epithelium of the colon. In the cases of hereditary forms of CCR, some alterations are inherited and they are present in the cells of the whole organism. In the cases of sporadic CCR, not related with the inheritance, the genetic changes are acquired in some moment of the indivual s life. The study of these genetic alterations can be used as help in the diagnosis and presage of the CCR; in the hereditary forms, they allow a precocious intervention, so that you can avoid the development of tumors. In the present revision, we make a modernized summary of the main clinical characteristics and present genetics in the sporadic and hereditary CCR.
