Abstract: | |
The results of the stud y of 28 patients with thyroid diseases by means of scintigraphy with 99m Tc-sestamabi is presented in this report. Twenty two cases were studied by scintigraphy during the clinical follow-up after surgical treatment of thyroid In all patients scintigraphy of neck and torax in anterior projection, and whole body image were done 10 minutes and 1 hour after the administration of the radiopharmaceutical. In all cases there was also done scintigraphy by 131 - iodine. The results of both scintigraphical procedures were compared. In the group of 22 patients with thyroid differentiated cancer, coincidencial results were observed in 18 cases. In 1l/18 of these patients both scintigraphies showed same characteristics of the "hot" lesions, while in 5 cases the (hot) zones at the 99m Tesestamibi scintigraphy were different in size and concentration ofthe radiopharmaceuticals. The small group of six cases with different thyroid diseases presented more information at the 99m Tc-sestamibi scintigraphy than the 131-iodine, concerning the size , extensión and concentration of the radiopharmaceutical. It is concluyed that 99m Tc-sestamibiscintigraphy is a valuable tool in the regular study of patients with tumoral or nodular diseases. (Oncología (Ecuador) 1996;6:328-344).
